My first trip to Awesome Walls By Amy Cotter

On 28/10/12, I went to Awesome Walls with the club. I was amazed when I saw the wall and was blinded by all colours. There were three floors, two had bouldering walls and the ground floor had top roped and lead routes. There were over 70 routes in total.

Most people came around 11:15 and climbing started at 11:30. Richard said to take it easy up to break. After warm up, I did about 6 or 7 routes top roping. The first 3 or 4 were easy enough but then they became tougher. Next, I had a look at the bouldering walls. I climbed on the bouldering walls up to the break. Some of the bouldering routes were complicated with difficult overhangs. At break, almost everyone had a hot chocolate, including myself. I had regained my energy and was ready to lead climb. I did about 8 or 9 lead climbs; some of them were quite hard. The walls were much higher than the ones in the Mardyke, and that made them even more difficult and tiring. I watched some of the others climb, they were excellent. By the end, I felt powerless; I couldn’t do one more route.

When I arrived home, I was exhausted. I went straight to sleep, thinking about the fantastic time I had at Awesome Walls. It was some of the toughest climbing I’ve ever done and I’m looking forward to going back.
