Awesome September Meet

posted 3 Oct 2012, 14:47 by john murphy

September the 29th marked the opening of the the new Awesome Walls facility in Dublin and the club could not resist the opportunity to climb the countries highest indoor climbing wall. An easy two and a half hours from Cork, Awesome Walls is located just off the N2 junction on the M50.

Membership forms were filled out and the kids ran into the climbing hall. Jaws dropped. This place is huge.

It was clear after the first few routes were done that this place was just a bit special. This was not a rushed or hasty commissioning, the routes were set by some of Ireland's top climbers including Howard Hebblewaite and Ricky Bell. Right! This was some serious fun!

14 meter high lead and top rope walls in addition to two floors of bouldering kept all our young (and not so young) climbers busy over the two days.

There is always time for a game of 'add on'!

And keen to demonstrate their new climbing skills, climbing partners Kathleen and Gosia nabbed a few routes and got their first leads done (on a Howard route by the way!). Nice job ladies!
