Members of the CYCC attended the launch of the Ballyhoura Climbing Project in Kilfinane, Co Limerick on Feb 21st. The main purpose of the project is to set up a youth climbing club in the area and we were delighted to be invited along.

This project is being launched by a number of project partners to include Mountaineering Ireland, Kilfinane OEC, Co. Limerick Local Sports Partnership, Co. Cork Local Sports Partnership & South Tipperary Local Sports Partnership. The project is supported by the Irish Sports Council 'Women in Sport' programme.

CYCC 'senior' members spoke to local volunteers and parents while our younger members took to Kilfinane's climbing and bouldering wall to demonstrate climbing movement and technique.

We'd encourage anyone in the area interested in climbing to give the Kilfinane Outdoor Education Centre a call to learn more about their project.

Kilfinane OEC is home to a state of the art Indoor Climbing Wall newly constructed in 2009. The wall has a host of features and is designed to cater for climbers of all levels.
  • Bouldering wall
  • 8 metre high x 14 metre wide climbing wall
  • 19 roped routes
  • 14 lead routes
  • Belay ledge for practicing multi-pitch skills
  • Inclined slab for beginner climbers
  • Safety flooring throughout the climbing wall area
  • Safety crash mats in bouldering area.
