With over 25 years' experience as both mountaineer and rock climber Iain Miller has been pushing the boundaries of climbing in Ireland. Iain has over 1,000 first ascents of sea stacks, sea cliffs and rock faces in both Ireland and Scotland. We were delighted when Iain accepted our invitation to train a few CYCC members while he was on the Cork leg of his Irish lecture tour.

Iain and his climbing partner Wolfgang Schuessler spent two hours with a number of CYCC members on Thursday January 18th. The main theme of Iain's session with CYCC members was safe climbing and he focused on passing on valuable skills to our young climbers.

The no-hand hold traverse didn't prove to be very popular with the kids at first but they did learn something very new. A must for every traverse we reckon.

Back to basics for a refreshing ropes and knots session.

Finally, a must see video of Iain and Wolfgang doing a first ascent of a sea stack off the coast of Donegal. Many thanks to Iain and Wolfgang for spending time with us this week!

Iain also send us a copy of the latest Cruit Island climbing guide with hundreds of fine granite routes! The PDF is attached below so feel free to download and dream!
